Cookie Policy
Last updated: 11 August 2026This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies this website uses, why, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. Cookies allow a site to recognise your device and remember certain information about your visit, such as whether you are logged in.
The legal framework
The use of cookies in the UK is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as significantly amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Since 5 February 2026, certain low-risk cookies — such as those used purely for first-party statistical analysis or to remember basic site preferences — no longer require consent, provided strict conditions are met and users are given clear information along with an easy way to opt out. Cookies used for advertising, cross-site tracking, or any purpose beyond those narrow exemptions still require your consent.
Cookies we currently use
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| excity_session | Keeps you securely logged in where relevant, and protects forms on this site against cross-site request forgery attacks | Deleted when you close your browser, or after a period of inactivity | No — strictly necessary for the site to function securely |
| Google Tag Manager (GTM) | Loads analytics and measurement tools so we can understand how visitors use the site. GTM itself is a delivery mechanism — cookies set through it depend on which tags are configured. | Varies by tag | Yes — only loads if you click "Accept All" on the cookie notice. Choosing "Necessary Only" keeps this switched off entirely. |
| Google Analytics (GA4) | Measures site visits, page views and general usage patterns. Sets its own analytics cookies (typically _ga, _ga_*) once loaded. | Up to 2 years | Yes — only loads if you click "Accept All" on the cookie notice. Choosing "Necessary Only" keeps this switched off entirely. |
The session cookie is always active, since the site cannot function securely without it. Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics are never loaded until you actively consent via the cookie notice — if you choose "Necessary Only," neither one runs at all, on any page. Google Analytics assigns each visitor a pseudonymous identifier to distinguish sessions and repeat visits; it does not, to our knowledge, identify you personally, but Google's own handling of this data is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours.
How the consent choice actually works
The cookie notice on this site offers a genuine choice, not just an acknowledgement: "Necessary Only" keeps only the strictly necessary session cookie active. "Accept All" additionally loads Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics. Your choice is remembered in your browser so you're not asked again on future visits, and you can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain and revisiting.
Third-party resources that are not cookies
This website loads web fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). This is a direct connection from your browser to Google's servers to download font files — it does not set a cookie, but it does mean your device connects to a third-party server and your IP address may be visible to Google as part of that standard web request, in the same way it would be for any external resource your browser loads.
How to control cookies
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings, including blocking cookies entirely or deleting cookies already stored. Be aware that blocking the strictly necessary session cookie on this site may prevent some features, such as staying logged in to the admin area, from working correctly.
Changes to this policy
If we add further analytics, marketing or any other non-essential cookies in future, we will update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before those cookies are set.
Questions
If you have any questions about our use of cookies, contact us at enquiries@excityretailsupport.co.uk.
This policy reflects current UK cookie law as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 and does not constitute legal advice. If you add further tracking, analytics or advertising technology to this site in future, review your cookie compliance again at that point — the exemptions described above are narrow and purpose-limited.
